If you could sit and think about what your general self talk looks like, what would you say? Is it mainly put downs or uplifting? Do you notice it being primarily negative or positive? If its mainly negative then affirmations are a thing you need!
What are Affirmations? Affirmations are emotional support and encouraging things we tell ourselves. Most people are unaware of their self talk and suffer with negative self talk. Affirmations help with encouraging positive self talk and things we need to hear to have a healthier life rather than the negative things we tell ourselves.
Affirmations are not just things we need to tell ourselves because we can just say it, move on with our day and then it doesn’t do anything for us. It is a matter of believing it and genuinely feeling it when we say it. So it is important we tell ourselves these things with feeling and meaning.
The way we feel the affirmations is by wording them so they have individual meaning to us. So if there are some affirmations that you relate to but need to change or switch the wording to best resonate you, then please do so! Here are 12 Affirmations I feel benefit and apply to mostly everyone.
A lot of people struggle with self worth. You feel unworthy of love, help, success, a family/friends etc. Telling yourself these things makes you feel unworthy and it reinforces those feelings. So it is important to individualize what you feel unworthy of and reverse that unworthy self talk.
It does not matter who you are, you are allowed to want things. You are human and are allowed to have the same things as everyone else. And it does not matter your reasoning for wanting them. You can want it just because!
Starting or ending a day full of gratitude can really change your focus and how you perceive thing. It helps you see the positive and good in your life rather than what you don’t have. You can be grateful for things you accomplished, your health, your loved ones.
Sometimes when we are down in the dumps it can be hard to be grateful and imagine good things. So start small. It can even be as simple as being grateful for running water or the ability to see.
This can also help get you pumped for the things you are going to do that day. So just like individualizing the things you are worthy of, it is important to individualize what makes you grateful.
If you are struggling with love for not only others but for yourself, this will help you open that closed off wall. After we go through trauma, a lot of the times we build walls to protect ourselves. And then we go through our lives lonely and unsure what to do or how to go about it.
By saying you are open, you are helping yourself lead in the direction to form love for yourself and others. You are putting it out there and focusing on the thing you want. Not only do you want to give, but you want to receive it as well!
A lot of people struggle with being a perfectionist and setting unrealistic expectations for themselves. Reminding yourself you are human and that you make mistakes brings you back to a realistic expectation of yourself rather than telling yourself what you do wrong all day.
Feeling confident and trusting in ourselves can be a hard concept for a lot of us. If we don’t trust in ourselves who can we trust? Letting ourselves know we can trust ourselves, builds confidence as well as helps us to move forward with healthy relationships and decisions in our lives. You can be confident and believe in yourself!
It is easy to throw in the towel and deem things as too hard or not likely. And that is what a lot of us do. We don’t think we can do something so we feel we can’t do it. Allow yourself to feel you can do it when you put your mind to it. You are capable of doing a lot more than you think! If you feel you can’t you are right, just as much as you are right when you feel you can.
Not feeling good enough is something we have all felt at times and some even unfortunately feel it all the time. It is so important to let yourself know you are enough. When we don’t feel we are enough we then become burnt out and have a harder time moving forward. Telling yourself you are not enough demotivates you from improvement and makes it harder to go froward.
You are enough and you do enough! The moment you recognize that and you continue to believe it, is the moment when you will be able to improve in your life. It will be exciting to do more because you finally feel enough rather than trying to prove you can be better and making it a punishment.
This is the affirmation that is meant to empowers us. A lot of times we give up our power by remaining a victim or feeling that we can’t do anything about a situation. We have thoughts making us feel we are just helpless and everyone else walks all over us and there is nothing we can do about it.
That could not be further from the truth! We can always do something to create a better life for us. Whether that is walking away or forming a plan to create a change. YOU have the power.
You would be surprised how this can be the hardest affirmation for some to say. There is a lot of self hatred going around and acceptance of ourselves can be hard to grasp. You are who you are. There are flaws about you as well as good things. Loving yourself doesn’t mean you don’t have anything wrong with you. Loving yourself is knowing there are things wrong and loving/accepting yourself regardless. You are so loved and accepted.
This Affirmation is really helpful when we feel out of control especially when it comes to our emotions, how our life is going and in our relationships. Know you are in control and you can let things go that you can not control. Focus on what you can control and remind yourself to let go of what you can not.
If there isn’t something I preach more than anything, it is compassion and being understanding! In order to get compassion and understanding we have to first give it. We sometimes have to show the way to others.
Compassion as well as understanding is so important to live and grow. Allow yourself to open up and listen to yourself and others, be understanding when things don’t happen the way you had wanted. Be compassionate towards others and then be compassionate to yourself like you would a friend. It is okay to do things wrong or mess up. You are going to be okay even though you made a mistake. Everything is going to be okay.
Affirmations are not always easy to say especially when it is easier to tell ourselves the negative. This is something that takes repetition and constant practice. Just remember to be kinder to yourself because you are stuck with you for the rest of your life. Why life it being hard and mean when you can work on living it happier and free of shame, guilt and self criticism.
